Tiia Vanhatapio’s world is a boiling cauldron of design, film noir and historical projections. A lifelong love affair for all things macabre, seductive and subculture oriented.
Vanhatapio is a cult figure in her home country, since emerging as one of Finland’s leading female rockabilly singers during the 1990’s. After MA graduattion with three scholarships from the University of Art and Design Helsinki, she developed an edgy, sultry fashion line for women called Tiia Vanhatapio. Vanhatapio’s signature line ranges from seductive and superbly tailored Va-Va Voom! cocktail dresses to ready-to-wear. A stage adorned by a clientele of headstrong women and proud parents of VANHATAPIO bebes line. Latest addition to the range in 2010 is Vanhatapio Accessories.
The number one seller of Tiia Vanhatapio’s range is a black satin cocktail number with pockets: Mamie Dress, the key piece of her classic designs. She has lately been dubbed as the “Queen of Cocktail Dress” by Scandinavian press.
One of Vanhatapio’s followers is the American burlesque star Dita von Teese who owns several pieces, including Mamie. Vanhatapio has collaborated with companies such as Artek, Ikea, Vero Moda, Bonnier Publications, Stockmann, Chez Dominique and Tarkiainen Jewellery. See more on the Design Projects page.
